questions about archetypal coaching
What happens in Archetypal Coaching?
Typically, Archetypal Coaching sessions take place one-on-one in the coach's office, much like visiting a traditional counselor. Archetypal Coaching sessions may also happen in a public place, such as a coffee shop, or restaurant, or even outside in the park if such an environment is comfortable and safe for both the coach and client.
Technology also makes it possible for Archetypal Coaching sessions to take place via Zoom or other internet-based meeting platform. If you have a computer or tablet that is compatible with the Zoom platform, Archetypal Coaching sessions can happen from the comfort of your own home. Many Coaching Clients find this safe, comfortable, and just as impactful as an in-person visit.
Sessions usually last for an hour and can consist of dialogue, listening, silence, meditation, instruction, ceremony, guidance, or any combination of these things depending on the needs of the client.
How is Archetypal Coaching different from traditional therapy?
Mindfulness-Focused Archetypal Coaching is not therapy, but it is therapeutic. Archetypal Coaching and psychotherapy are both valuable tools for personal growth and healing, but they serve different purposes and are often used in different contexts. Archetypal Coaching is focused on self exploration, self awareness, and personal growth and development of SOUL. Psychotherapy is focused on healing and resolving mental health issues. While similar to psychotherapy or mental health counseling, Archetypal Coaching does not diagnose or treat serious mental health disorders.
What does "Mindfulness-Focused" Archetypal Coaching mean?
The terms "psyche" and "soul" are often used interchangeably. Both terms are used to describe the complex and dynamic nature of human experience and the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit. The difference lies in the context in which the word is used.
In Greek, "psyche" (ψυχή) refers to the animating principle that gives life to the body. In this sense, the psyche is seen as the vital force that animates the physical body and allows it to function. In other ancient contexts, the same word "psyche" (ψυχή) is translated as "Soul" and refers to the deep spiritual aspect of the human being that exists in relationship with the physical body. Within this context, the soul is understood as the seat of consciousness, intellect, and emotion.
Mindfulness-Focused Archetypal Coaching focuses on SOUL. This type of Soul-Focused Transformational Coaching facilitates spiritual healing and growth through an emphasis on simple, time-honored practices such as meditation, breath-work, mindfulness exercises, embodied practice, active imagination, and creativity. These traditional spiritual-focused, mindful practices help to center us in ourselves and in the world around us in the hopes of being more alive and empowered in our human spiritual work.
Do I have to have an understanding of God or Religion to begin Archetypal Coaching?
No. Archetypal Coaching uses "spiritual" language and makes room for a person's spiritual experiences, but Archetypal Coaching is not about "religion". The invitation of Archetypal Coaching is to participate in soul-focused work with a trusted friend in a safe, supportive relationship and attend to your relationship with the Numenous, the Transcendent, or the God of your own understanding. Many people explore Archetypal Coaching as a way to heal wounds from religious trauma and cultivate a more positive, liberating experience of the transcendent in their lives. Archetypal Coaching can help individuals move past negative ideas and beliefs about god, spirituality, or religion, and find nourishment for their soul.
Do I Have to be "Religious" to be in Archetypal Coaching?
No. Archetypal Coaching is available to any person, regardless of their faith tradition or for those who may not be interested in "religion" at all. It’s not the job of the Archetypal Coach to “convert” a client to any particular religious practice, but to support the seeker in cultivating a meaningful relationship with the divine according to their own understanding. Archetypal Coaching is a whole-person model of coaching that makes room for the spiritual dimensions that are integral to human experience.
