archetypal coaching and the 12-steps
Archetypal Coaching can play an important role in supporting individuals in 12-step recovery by addressing their spiritual and existential concerns.
Most 12-Step programs are based on the idea that addiction is a spiritual disease, and that recovery requires a spiritual solution. Archetypally speaking, this is true; for this is why alcohols are historically called "spirits." From an archetypal perspective, when people crave or thirst for alcohol, their soul is unconsciously craving and yearning for a transcendent spiritual experience - an experience that lifts them out of mundane reality and transports them to the realm of the gods. Unfortunately, the authentic spiritual experience for which the soul truly yearns is not found in the alcohol (or any substance). Archetypal Coaching, which focuses on spiritual work, can help individuals connect with their higher power and have authentic spiritual experiences in sobriety. |
Mindfulness-Focused Archetypal Coaching in 12-step recovery can help individuals cultivate a sense of inner peace and serenity. This can involve practices such as meditation, mindfulness, and visualization, which can help individuals quiet their minds and connect with their inner selves. By developing a sense of inner peace and serenity, individuals in recovery can better manage stress and reduce their risk of relapse.
Archetypal Coaching can help individuals in 12-step recovery develop a sense of connection and community. This can involve helping individuals build relationships with others who share similar values and beliefs, and who can provide support and encouragement as they navigate their recovery journey. By fostering a sense of connection and community, transpersonal coaching can help individuals feel more grounded and supported, which can be crucial in maintaining long-term sobriety.
"Addiction is the negative side of spiritual seeking. We are looking for an exultation of the spirit; but instead of fulfillment we get a short-lived physical thrill that can never satisfy the chronic, gnawing emptiness with which we are beset. To fill this emptiness, we need to reconnect with the capacity for ecstasy that lies dormant within us."

The Twelve Steps of Recovery contain a lot of language related to Higher Power and God..."the God of your understanding". Working with an understanding and supportive Archetypal Coach during a process of recovery can be an enriching and empowering experience which can bring clarity and safety to these sometimes unfamiliar, mysterious, or overwhelming ideas.

"You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope."
