questions about transpersonal coaching
What happens in Transpersonal Coaching?
Typically, Transpersonal Coaching sessions take place one-on-one in the coach's office, much like visiting a traditional counselor. Transpersonal Coaching sessions may also happen in a public place, such as a coffee shop, or restaurant, or even outside in the park if such an environment is comfortable and safe for both the coach and client.
Technology also makes it possible for Transpersonal Coaching sessions to take place via Zoom or other internet-based meeting platform. If you have a computer or tablet that is compatible with the Zoom platform, Transpersonal Coaching sessions can happen from the comfort of your own home. Many Transpersonal Clients find this safe, comfortable, and just as impactful as an in-person visit.
Sessions usually last for an hour and can consist of dialogue, listening, silence, meditation, instruction, ceremony, guidance, or any combination of these things depending on the needs of the client.
How is Transpersonal Coaching different from traditional therapy?
Transpersonal Coaching is therapeutic, but it is not therapy. Transpersonal Coaching and psychotherapy are both valuable tools for personal growth and healing, but they serve different purposes and are often used in different contexts. Transpersonal Coaching is focused on self exploration, self awareness, and personal growth and development, while psychotherapy is focused on healing and resolving mental health issues. While similar, Transpersonal Coaching does not diagnose or treat serious mental health disorders.
What does "Soul-Focused" Transpersonal Coaching mean?
The terms "psyche" and "soul" are often used interchangeably. Both terms are used to describe the complex and dynamic nature of human experience and the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit. The difference lies in the context in which the word is used.
In Greek, "psyche" (ψυχή) referred to the breath of life or the animating principle that gave life to the body. In this sense, the psyche was seen as the vital force that animated the physical body and allowed it to function. In other ancient contexts, the same word (ψυχή) is translated as "Soul" and refers to the immortal and spiritual aspect of the human being that existed beyond the physical body. The soul was seen as the seat of consciousness, intellect, and emotion, and was believed to continue after death.
Soul-Focused Transpersonal Coaching focuses on SOUL. Soul-Focused Transpersonal Coaching facilitates spiritual healing and growth through an emphasis on simple, time-honored practices such as meditation, breath-work, mindfulness exercises, embodied practice, and creativity. These traditional spiritual-focused, mindful practices help to center us in ourselves and in the world around us in the hopes of being more alive and empowered in our human spiritual work.
Do I have to have an understanding of God or Religion to begin Transpersonal Coaching?
No. Transpersonal Coaching uses "spiritual" sounding language and makes room for a person's spiritual experiences, but Transpersonal Coaching is not about "religion". The invitation of Transpersonal Coaching is to participate in soul-focused work with a trusted friend in a safe, supportive relationship and attend to your relationship with the Numenous, the Transcendent, or the God of your own understanding. Many people explore Transpersonal Coaching as a way to heal wounds from religious trauma and cultivate a more positive, liberating experience of the transcendent in their lives. Transpersonal Coaching can help individuals move past negative ideas and beliefs about god, spirituality, or religion, and find nourishment for their soul.
Do I Have to be "Religious" to be in Transpersonal Coaching?
No. Transpersonal Coaching is available to any person, regardless of their faith tradition or for those who may not be interested in "religion" at all. It’s not the job of the Transpersonal Coach to “convert” a client to any particular religious practice, but to support the seeker in cultivating a meaningful relationship with the divine according to their own understanding. Transpersonal Coaching is a whole-person model of care that makes room for the spiritual dimensions that are integral to human experience.
How much do you charge for Transpersonal Coaching?
I encourage the individuals and groups that I work with to practice the principles of Dana Paramita, the practice of generosity and responsible giving. There is no charge for initial consultations, this is an opportunity for us to meet, talk, and see if we will be a good fit for working together; it is important for the Coach and the Client both share a sense of "calling" to work together and feel like they are a "right fit". For regular, individual Transpersonal Coaching Sessions, I charge a sliding scale fee for my time and service in which most people can feel comfortable meeting their budget. My sliding scale can range between $50 to $100 per Spiritual Direction session. Your payment for Transpersonal Coaching sessions may be made via Venmo or Pay-Pal.
NO ONE, however, is denied the gift of Transpersonal Coaching, regardless of ability or inability to give. If you need Soul-Focused Transpersonal Coaching and have limited financial resources, please reach out and let me know, I am happy to explore a exchange/donation scale that works for you.
